Wholehearted Counselling

I have a real passion for helping people become their authentic selves — whatever that looks like for them.

“You don’t have to be at rock bottom to start therapy.”

Sometimes it’s the quiet ache that goes on too long: the pattern you can see but can’t break, the relationship that keeps draining you, the version of yourself you keep promising to fix later. Therapy is a place to stop white-knuckling it — and start figuring it out with someone who actually gets it.

What I help with

Therapy with a registered psychologist in Calgary, Alberta centres on six areas. If what you’re carrying doesn’t fit neatly into one of them, you’re still welcome here — most people’s struggles don’t.

  1. 01

    Depression

When everything feels heavy — motivation gone, joy out of reach, days blurring together. Therapy helps you understand what’s driving it, and begin rebuilding energy, meaning, and a sense of yourself again.

  2. 02

    Anxiety

Racing thoughts, the dread that won’t switch off, avoiding things that once felt easy. We’ll work with what’s underneath the anxiety, not just chase the symptoms — so your life can expand again.

  3. 03

    Addictions

For substance use, behavioural addictions, and the coping strategies that quietly started running your life. Honest, non-shaming support centred on what recovery looks like for you — not a formula.

  4. 04

    Trauma

Trauma keeps the past very present. In a carefully paced, safe space, we work toward loosening its grip — so what happened to you no longer decides how you move through the world.

  5. 05

    ADHD

Missed deadlines, half-finished projects, and the shame that piles up when trying “harder” doesn’t work. Practical strategies, plus space to rethink your relationship with your own mind. Suspect ADHD? Assessments are available too.

  6. 06

    Relationships

Conflict on repeat, feeling unseen, patterns that keep pulling you back in. Support for understanding how you attach, communicate, and set boundaries with the people who matter most.

What to expect

Starting therapy shouldn’t feel mysterious. Here’s how the first steps go — simple, and on your terms.

  1. Book in two minutes

Book a session online, or email me for a free 10–15 minute intro call to see if we’re a fit.

  2. Meet for 50 minutes

Virtual from anywhere in Alberta or BC, or in person in Calgary. Bring what’s on your mind — I’ll guide the rest.

  3. Leave with a plan

Each session ends with practical skills to try and a clear sense of where we’re headed — not just a good conversation.

Psychological assessments

A comprehensive psychological assessment with a registered psychologist in Calgary, Alberta — for when you need to know what’s actually going on, not just keep guessing.

What it is

An in-depth clinical interview (2–4 hours with you), standardized testing tailored to the referral question, and a detailed written report with findings and recommendations.

Why get one

It answers what’s actually going on — whether that’s ADHD, anxiety, trauma, or a combination — so treatment stops being guesswork. The report can also support workplace or school accommodations where needed.

The process

  • A brief consult to confirm an assessment is the right fit for you
  • The clinical interview — 2–4 hours to understand your history and goals
  • Standardized testing chosen around the questions we’re answering
  • A feedback session where we go through the results and report together

Assessment fee

$1,500 flat — everything included, confirmed before we begin

Every assessment is scoped around your referral question. If you’re reaching out about an assessment, just say so in your message or note it when booking online, and we’ll plan the right next step.

Clear, honest pricing

$200

per therapy session — in person or by video, same rate. No tiers, no surprises.

Direct billing

Direct billing available for Blue Cross, Green Shield, Telus Health, and other insurance companies. You only pay your portion (if any) at the time of your session.

  • Blue Cross
  • Green Shield
  • Telus Health
  • Other insurance companies

You’ll receive a proper receipt for every session that you can submit to your benefits plan for reimbursement. It’s also worth checking your plan in advance about coverage for Registered Psychologist services.

If you have questions about coverage at all, ask me or your insurer — I’m happy to help you figure it out.

Hi, I’m Dr. Carissa Muth.

Registered Psychologist in Calgary, Alberta — licensed in Alberta and British Columbia

Hi, it's nice to meet you. My name is Dr. Carissa Muth, and I'll tell you a little bit about myself.

To start, you probably want to know about my education. I have a Bachelor's of Social Work, a Master's in Counselling, and a Doctorate of Psychology. What I appreciate about my educational path — although it's a bit unorthodox — is that it gave me a well-rounded perspective. Social work, counselling, and psychology each approach things a little differently, so my training has given me a holistic view of the mental health field.

In addition to my 13 years of schooling, I have been a registered psychologist since 2016. I've worked in private practice with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, addictions, and relationships. I also spent eight years working in an inpatient treatment setting in various capacities, including three years as the clinical director. During that time, I spoke at a variety of conferences, specializing in trauma and post-traumatic growth.

I've worked with people from many backgrounds, including veterans, first responders, people with workplace trauma, and chronic pain.

Therapy with me is active — we won't just sit and talk about the problem. We'll practice skills, try things between sessions, pay attention to whether they're actually working, and collaboratively work toward your goals. While I'll support you for as long as you want to be in therapy, my goal is to help you achieve yours and build a life with greater well-being.

I draw on DBT, CBT, cognitive processing therapy for trauma, post-traumatic growth, and positive psychology. I believe deeply in your autonomy — you're the expert on your own life, and my job is to help you build the capacity to live it well.

One idea that greatly shapes how I view things is that we all strive to find meaning and purpose in life. This is deeply embedded in my views on positive psychology. I believe that mental illness and mental well-being are not opposite ends of one line — they're two separate tracks. Even when symptoms are chronic, you can build a life with real meaning and purpose. That's what we're working toward: not just coping, but flourishing.

One thing that makes therapy really effective is clicking with your therapist — their personality, how they practice, and their modality. I'd be happy to have a 10–15 minute introductory phone call to get to know you and see if we might be a fit. Please feel free to get in touch, or book an appointment online if you prefer.

Therapy should feel like a conversation with someone who’s truly on your side.

Is what I tell you confidential?
